All summer long you’ll find fabulous outdoor movies shown for free at various New York City parks. So grab a blanket and someone to share it with, and head to a free movie in the park! Here are some of our favorite viewing spots for 2017.
For 25 years, viewers have enjoyed classic big screen films under the stars at Bryant Park. Gather with friends or family to sit on a blanket on the spacious lawn as you enjoy fabulous food vendors, live performances, and classic Warner Brothers cartoons along with your chosen film. This year’s lineup includes Wall Street, Pillow Talk, The Hustler, All That Jazz, North by Northwest, and Dirty Dancing.
Somehow a playground seems like a fitting setting for viewing the third version of the iconic Power Rangers tale. Perfect for children, teens, and adults, you’ll love finding out how five average teenagers discover their extraordinary mission: to save their small town and the entire world along with it. Come early, bring a blanket or chair, and pack a picnic basket for this entertaining event.
Enjoy your movie with the incredible view from Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 1. Since 2000, Movies With A View has entertained, thrilled, and moved more than 340,000 moviegoers, becoming one of New York City’s favorite summer outdoor film series. Happening every Thursday evening throughout July and August, the diverse lineup this year includes Pariah, Casablanca, The Lego Movie, 9 to 5, 42, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
Located at the touchdown of the 103rd Street footbridge, you’ll find this fantastic film series features movies including Race, A League of Their Own, Motorcycle Diaries, and Malcolm X. Presented in partnership with the New York City Parks, you’ll find classic favorites and recent blockbusters shown outdoors here. It’s an amazing place to take in a flick!
Outdoor movies held at Prospect Park in NYC are screened on Long Meadow North, and this year’s lineup includes The Neverending Story, The Sandlot, Moonrise Kingdom, and Zootopia. Each film features live musical entertainment before the show, and all films are free, family-friendly and perfect for all audiences. All you need is a picnic blanket to sit on!
Hudson River Flicks proudly presents a varied, impressive lineup of films that includes Keanu, Arrival, the Lego Batman Movie, Hidden Figures, La La Land, and Logan at Pier 63. With something suitable for everyone in the family on the list, your Wednesdays will be full of fun all summer long! Be sure to bring a blanket, as chairs aren’t allowed for these free summer screenings.
But wait, there’s more! Hudson River Park also hosts family-friendly Friday films at Pier 45. This summer’s movies include Trolls, the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Kubo and the Two Strings, Sing, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the original Karate Kid.
Sit out on the deck beneath the stars to watch classic favorites and modern hits. This year’s film list features Good Morning Vietnam, Anchorman, Cocktail, The Martian, and Back to the Future. For these events, you can bring lawn chairs, blankets, food, and non-alcoholic beverages – and as always, all showings are free.
